Let's Go Camping!!! April Campout Information

When:  April 25-26
Where:  RUMC & McFarlane Park in East Cobb
Uniform:  Class B

Signup for Belt Loop-a-Thon
Signup for Camping and to volunteer.

We will start at RUMC with a Belt Loop-a-Thon from 9am to 3pm then go to the park to set up camp.  We will have pizza for lunch.  

The Belts Loops planned are:
Disability Awareness
Frisbee Golf

In case of rain, Belt Loops will be:
Disability Awareness
Wildlife Conservation

Camping Details
We can set up camp starting at 3:30pm.

We will need volunteers to help with the activities on Saturday at RUMC and with cooking, cleaning, managing the fire, etc. on Saturday evening. Each Den will need to have some parents volunteer to help.  We will have duty rosters for volunteers to sign up.

For dinner we are making Trashcan Turkey and vegetables.

Each den will be responsible for a skit or song at the campfire.

Breakfast will be served in the morning and we will tear down the camp by noon.

Blue & Gold

Our big banquet is upon us.   If you haven't registered yet for the evening please do so.  email if you have not received the e-invite.     At blue and gold we recognize the achievements of all the scouts and primarily focus on the Webelos II scouts that will be moving up to Boy Scouts this year.  Congrats Den 4....

Pinewood Derby Information

It's Pinewood Derby Week folks.  Here is the schedule for this weekend's festivities.

A pre-race workshop will be Friday, February 19th 6:00PM - 8:00PM in the RUMC Scout Hut.  

We will also be doing track set-up and race facility set-up Friday, Feb 19th 6:00PM - 8:00PM. If you can help, come on over.

8:30AM - 10:00AM  Official Race Check-In, cars must be checked in by 10am to be run with the Scout cars.

10:00AM - 10:30AM Flag/Opening Ceremony & Scout Voting on Derby Entries

10:30AM - Racing Begins
Race Order
Webelos 1
Webelos 2

The races and activities are expected to last until approximately 1:30PM.

Food(pizza) and other concessions will be available for purchase @ 12:00PM.

2015 Cub Camp

I know this is a little early in the year for Cub Camp (Day or Twilight) but I wanted to get the flyer out to everyone so you had it. Cub Camp happens at Wills Park in Alpharetta, the timing of the camp allows scouts to work on requirements for their new program year.   Bears now will be working on Webelos badge requirements, tigers now will be working on their Wolf requirements, etc.   This is a great way for scouts to get a jump on the program year and have a great time while doing it. 
We will have additional information as we get closer to the end of the school year.

Scouting For Food

As with previous years, February is our month to do the Scouting For Food Drive.  We do this with the help of our Charter Organization, Roswell United Methodist Church, collecting food for North Fulton Charities and helping those less fortunate.    I know this may be one of the least favorite activities our scouts do however, it has the greatest impact for those that are in need.   I look forward to seeing you all on our service dates 2/1 and 2/8.  

January Pack Meeting

The January pack meeting will host a few changes.   First this will be a special meeting as the Webelos II scouts have elected a Senior Denner for the pack and he will be taking my place as Cubmaster for the meeting.   I would like to congratulate Ben Rodes our first Senior Denner.

To my knowledge this has not been done in Cub Scouts before and personally I think this will be a great activity for the up-coming scouts to work towards when they become Webelos II.    Ben, we are all here to support you and look forward to a great pack meeting.

As some of you may know, Boy Scouts is boy lead with adults acting in a more supervisory role.  In order to give our Webelos II a “taste” of what is in store for them it is my wish to give these our senior Cub Scouts the opportunity to experience a portion of what they have in store for them in their future as Boy Scouts.   

Second, we are changing the format of the pack meeting for 2015.   One of our goals is get the pack meetings down to an hour.   We will be starting our pack meetings at 6:30pm starting in January with an expected close time of 7:30pm.    Not all pack meetings will have a pack activity like we have done for most of 2014, some will and some won’t.   Our new format still has skits and songs for the boys to participate in as well as a new segment called “Den Spotlight.”   This segment will feature one den a month and they will be telling the pack a few things about themselves.   This should be a good segment for all to learn more about the scouts and to give each some time practicing public speaking.   

As a note, if your den is scheduled for Gathering activity and setup you will need to be at the pack meeting place by 6:15pm for a prompt start at 6:30.    This month Den 1, Webelos I, has the gathering activity and setup.
